Former Sarnia Football League president brings leadership, medical expertise, and coaching background to growing SportsKlub program

SportsKlub continues to build out its leadership team with the addition of a name that brings both credibility and care to the role.
Dr. Andrew Westelaken has been named Co-Director of Player Experience and Football Operations Advisor, a position that will see him help shape both the culture of the league and the direction of its football product.
It’s a move that feels intentional.
Because as SportsKlub continues to grow, the challenge isn’t just organizing games. It’s creating an experience that players want to come back to. One that feels structured and meaningful, while still staying true to the league’s core identity.
That’s where Westelaken comes in.
A former president of the Sarnia Football League, Westelaken brings a deep understanding of what it takes to run a successful football organization. From league operations to player engagement, his experience adds a layer of structure and perspective that aligns with where SportsKlub is headed.
But his impact goes beyond football.
Westelaken’s background in health care and sports performance is extensive. A 2006 graduate of the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, he is a certified “Full Body” Active Release Techniques provider and delivers chiropractic care with a strong focus on soft tissue treatment.
Before that, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Western Ontario, specializing in orthopedics and surgical care at the Fowler-Kennedy Sports Injury Clinic. He also served as the graduating class valedictorian in 1999.
His experience as a registered nurse spans multiple disciplines, including emergency care, orthopedics, endoscopy, and ambulatory care, with time spent at University Hospital and Victoria Hospital in London, as well as in Sarnia. He also worked at Shouldice Hospital in Toronto, a facility known for its specialized surgical care.
That combination of clinical knowledge and real-world experience gives him a unique lens when it comes to player wellness, injury prevention, and recovery.
Westelaken has also worked closely with athletes throughout his career, volunteering as a trainer with the Lambton Lions football team, the University of Western Ontario, and Lambton College across multiple sports. Since moving to Orillia, he has remained active in the community, supporting organizations and participating in local events.
His involvement has extended beyond sports, including volunteer work with the Canadian Cancer Society, Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the Ontario Federation for Cerebral Palsy, along with public speaking engagements for community groups and organizations.
For SportsKlub, the addition of Westelaken represents more than just another name in leadership. It’s a step toward building something sustainable.
A league that not only runs smoothly and continues to improve in an environment where experience, safety, and enjoyment all carry equal weight.
As the season approaches, his role will focus on supporting player experience across the league while also advising on football operations, helping guide decisions that impact gameplay, structure, and overall development.
It’s the kind of addition that doesn’t always show up on a scoreboard. But over time, it shapes everything around it.
