Studabakers Beachside moves atop standings after slugfest victory; CMF Automotive powers past Muskies

The race for first place tightened Sunday morning at Tudhope Park as the Studabakers Beachside Rockies edged the Wagner Lawn Care Angels 17-15 in a high-scoring Orillia slopitch showdown, while the CMF Automotive Metropolitans earned an 18-10 victory over the NKD Deer Muskies during Week 5 action in SportsKlub Baseball.
The Rockies moved into sole possession of first place at 4-1, while the Angels slipped to 3-1-1. The Metropolitans improved to 2-3 and the Muskies fell to 0-4-1.
Metropolitans erupt for 18 runs
CMF Automotive wasted little time getting its offence rolling, scoring six runs in each of the game's three innings to defeat the Muskies 18-10.
The Metropolitans piled up 21 hits and were led by Devin Coombs, who delivered the biggest swing of the day with a grand slam while finishing with two hits and five RBIs. Kauner Lehtonen matched Coombs with five RBIs and added a double, while Steve Hamilton drove in three runs and collected two hits.
Steve DePiero and Austin Dyck each recorded three-hit performances, while Tamara Evans contributed two hits and two RBIs. Rob McMinn and Tim Hillson also scored twice in the victory.
The Muskies answered with 17 hits of their own. Eddy Tibbo continued his strong season with three hits and three runs scored, while Ricardo Santiago and Braelyn Neubrand also collected three-hit performances.
JJ Healy, Paul Laforet and Lee Cumming each added multiple hits for NKD Deer, but the Muskies were unable to overcome CMF's explosive offensive start.
Rockies outlast Angels in battle for first
The marquee matchup of the day lived up to expectations as the Rockies outslugged the Angels 17-15 in a game that featured 50 combined hits and multiple lead changes.
Studabakers Beachside trailed 10-8 after two innings before erupting for nine runs in the third to seize control.
Sebastian Oliveira was the star of the game, finishing 3-for-3 with six RBIs. Oliveira launched an inside-the-park home run in the second inning and later cleared the bases with a three-run triple during the Rockies' decisive third inning rally.
Jason Coldwell added three hits and two RBIs, while Shawn Thomas drove in four runs. Brayden Stillwell and Oliveira each scored three times, and Mike Black, Tucker McSwain, Jan Veitch and Percy Thomas all chipped in multiple hits.
The Angels refused to go away quietly, producing 24 hits in the loss.
Dylan Petroff led Wagner Lawn Care with three hits and four RBIs. Owen McCool, Wyatt Predum and Oswell James each collected three hits, while Griffin Knicely, Devin Coombs, Kauner Lehtonen and Paige Hawker all recorded multiple-hit performances.

The regular season continues Sunday, June 28 at Tudhope Park. The NKD Deer Muskies take on the Wagner Lawn Care Angels at 11 a.m., and the Studabakers Beachside Rockies take on CMF Automotive Metropolitans at 12 p.m.
