Rain can’t slow Blues, Huskers steals thriller

Torrential rain, explosive plays and late-game drama define wild Week 2 in Sunshine Superwash SportsKlub Football

Rain poured sideways, the field turned slick, and hands went numb. Still, everyone showed up — smiling, laughing, competing — turning brutal conditions into one of the most memorable nights in recent SportsKlub history.

Week 2 of Sunshine Superwash SportsKlub Football saw the Rick Grant Landscaping Blues continue to look like the league’s early powerhouse, overpowering the Wagner Lawn Care Trojans 38-13 in a game that never truly felt in doubt.

Their offense cut through the rain with ease, piling up explosive plays and controlling the tempo from start to finish. Big touchdown strikes to Vince Pitines and Matt Planta set the tone early, and the momentum never shifted.

The Trojans, led by Oswell James, showed flashes, including a strong second-quarter push, but turnovers and stalled drives proved costly in conditions where every possession mattered.

Earlier in the night, the Santa’s Nook Huskers outlasted the McLean & Dickey Insurance Thunderbolts 33-26 in a back-and-forth thriller that featured massive plays, quick responses, and late-game heroics.

A 95-yard touchdown from Lucas Di Mattia electrified the night early, and Scott Oliver took over late, scoring twice in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Even a last-ditch deep touchdown from the Bolts couldn’t swing it back.

The CMF Automotive Silver Bombers and Orillia Synergy Healthcare Augies stepped into the same storm and played a completely different kind of game, one defined by defense, turnovers, and patience.

The Silver Bombers emerged with an 18-6 win, but the score only tells part of the story.

Early on, neither team could find rhythm. Interceptions piled up, drives stalled, the rain made every throw and catch an adventure.

Colton Thompson broke the game open with a 48-yard touchdown connection to Ty Armatage in the first quarter, a play that cut through the conditions and gave the Silver Bombers early control.

In the second quarter, Jesse Bremner took over. He connected with Ethan Phillips on a 38-yard touchdown before adding a 33-yard rushing score of his own, stretching the lead to 18-0 and putting Synergy on their heels.

From there, the defense closed the door, limiting the Augies to just 149 total yards while forcing four interceptions, consistently halting any attempt to build momentum.

Even when the Dawgs began to find some rhythm late, highlighted by a fourth-quarter touchdown pass from Connor Flannery to Raygen Hendley, it was too little, too late.

Ethan Phillips and Ty Armatage led a balanced Silver Bombers attack that finished with 316 passing yards, while Bremner’s dual-threat performance proved to be the difference.

Across all three games, one thing was clear. This wasn’t about perfect football, it was about showing up.

Through rain, wind, cold, no one complained. Players embraced it, made plays in it, and turned a miserable night into something unforgettable.

Two weeks into the season, the standings are beginning to take shape. The Blues sits at the top, unbeaten and dominant. The Trojans and Silver Bombers remain firmly in the mix, while the Huskers dramatic win keeps them right in the hunt. The Augies and Thunder Bolts are still searching for consistency, but in SportsKlub Football, one big night can change everything.

The season continues Sunday, April 19, with another full slate. The Thunder Bolts will take on the Trojans, while the Silver Bombers face the Blues at 7 p.m.

At 8 p.m., friendly rivals, the Augies and Huskers meet in a rematch of Power Bowl 28, 35, and 36
