Fantasy Baseball Weekly: Fishpool - Another new LEader

There’s a new rhythm settling into the league. Every week has shown to never get comfy in 1st place. First McCLymont, then Goodings, and now for a third week in a row a new team takes top spot. After another week of lopsided results, statement wins, and a few eyebrow-raising collapses, the standings are beginning to tell a clearer story: no one is safe at the top.

And right now, that conversation still starts with Jason Fishpool.

Cluttered top of the standings proving unknown outcomes.

Fishpool Sets the Pace; But It’s Still Crowded

At 60-38-10, Fishpool sits atop the standings on the shoulders of Angels Zach Neto's three-homer week and Cardinals Ivan Herrera's 5 RBI's. He took down in last weeks showcase matchup Josh Goodings (7-4) after a power surge from Neto's teammate Mike Trout and Giants slugger Rafael Devers each with 2 HR's and a two start week from Blue Jays co-ace Dylan Cease. Fishpool hasn’t relied on blowouts, just steady category wins across the board grinding out each week.

But lurking just behind:

  • Josh Goodings (62-42-4) — still only 1 game back despite the loss

  • Dave McLeod (60-43-5) — fresh off a dominant 10-2 week

  • Mike McClymont (57-42-9) — quietly stacking wins and staying within striking distance since losing the top spot two weeks ago.

Week 9 Recap: Statement Wins & Reality Checks

Last week delivered a little bit of everything:

  • Dave McLeod came in clutch defeating Mitchell Hurtubise (10-2) after spending most of the week losing the head-to-head battle. McLeod won all offensive categories, and had a great week, great enough to beat Hurtubise's top-of-the-league pitching staff. He sent a clear message to the league: he’s not just a contender, he’s dangerous. Littered with young phenoms like Oneil Cruz, Travis Bazzana, Kevin McGonigle, Jonathan Aranda and Jackson Chourio being complimented by bonafide superstars Manny Machado and Kyle Tucker has shown this may be the recipe for success. Hurtubise's league leading 46 saves on the year and 7 last week weren't enough to save him from the loss.

  • Austin Patrick handled business against Tyler Evans (8-3), showing life from the lower half of the standings and killing Ty's momentum from clawing out of the basement. Alec Bohm, Cody Bellinger and Ernie Clement all had OPS's above .940 on the week powering him to the victory. This matchup was tight, showing 8 of the 12 weighted categories were decided by 6 stats or less and an easily different outcome.

  • Jason Fishpool outlasted Josh Goodings (7-4) in what could easily preview a playoff finals matchup. Another tightly fought matchup for Fishpool that worked out in his favour.

  • Tucker McSwain crushed Braeden Price (10-1), one of the most lopsided results of the week. Price's lineups were seldom set this week and McSwain took full advantage dominating the offensive categories. Almost feels like a waste of a 3 HR/12 RBI week from Ketel Marte.

  • Percy Thomas paced Jarrod Culver (7-4), rebounding from a tight loss to the now 1st place team last week. George Springer has awaken from his slumber with 3 HR's this week as well as much improved output from up and down Red Sox OF Jarren Duran. Don't wait on the Sal Stewart fall off, it may never come. He still ranks top 25 in all of fantasy baseball this season.

  • Ty Gerosavas rolled past Luke Todd (9-2), continuing his push toward top tier relevance. Bo knows as well as Ty knows how nice it was to see the monkey come off his back. Bichette had a 3/9 HR/RBI line this week and is certainly showing an upward trend. Ty took over the hitter categories even after a zero homer week from power threats Vinnie Pasquantino and Kyle Schwarber.

Luke saw a very "mid" week from his offence and a few blow ups from Jose Quintana and Devin Williams and lacklustre from the rest of the pitching staff not do him any favours.

And then… the odd one:

  • Mike McClymont vs Andrew Westlaken ended in a 6-6 tie. The kind of result that might matter a lot more come playoff seeding time. Westlaken owned on offence, and McClymonts pitching held down the "arms" stats. A perfect split. Westlaken saw the awakening of newly healthy Juan Soto and his 4 HR's and steady Christian Walker with 3 of his own carry the sticks for him. Murakami's zero homer down week seems perfectly timed.

McClymont witnessed ace Paul Skenes get roughed up in Toronto (I'm sure a bitter sweet moment regarding his fandom) for a career high 9 hits given up. Thankfully picked up the slack and helped him to a 6-6 split.

The Pack: Where the League Gets Muddy

If the top four are circling a title, the middle tier is where things get unpredictable:

  • Mitchell Hurtubise (58-44-6) — still 5th, but coming off a brutal loss and a potential confidence killer.

  • Ty Gerosavas (55-45-8) — trending up at the right time

  • Percy Thomas (51-51-6) — hovering around .500 but dangerous weekly

  • Jarrod Culver (48-51-9) — inconsistent, but capable of upsetting anyone.

These are the teams that don’t need to win the league's regular season, they just need to make sure they make it to the dance; and knock someone else out.

🚨 Week 10 Matchups to Watch

This week isn’t just another slate; it’s loaded with implications.

⭐ Headliner: Josh Goodings vs Jarrod Culver

Goodings is already off to a 4-1 lead, and if that holds, he could seriously pressure Fishpool for the top spot. Culver needs this one to stay relevant and early signs aren’t promising.

⚔️ Jason Fishpool vs Braeden Price

Shockingly in this 1st vs 14th (last place) matchup, Fishpool is trailing 2-3 early. Price needs this one. This is exactly the kind of matchup that can flip momentum in a season.

🔥 Dave McLeod vs Andrew Westlaken

McLeod is up 5-0 early. If that continues, it’s another dominant week from one of the hottest teams in the league. Careful with him, he always keeps receipts.

👀 Mike McClymont vs Percy Thomas

McClymont leads 4-0, looking to tighten his grip on a top-3 spot. Percy, meanwhile, risks slipping further into the middle pack. It's a real chance for her to regain some clout as a top team after a couple tough matchups.

⚖️ Mitchell Hurtubise vs Ty Gerosavas

A crucial matchup for positioning. Hurtubise leads 6-0 early, bouncing back strong after last week’s blowout loss. I add, a loss that did begin lopsided in his favour. Counting chickens will forever cost you in this game.

📉 Bottom of the Table: Playing for Pride (and Chaos)

Let’s be honest, the climb is steep:

  • Braeden Price (36-63-9)

  • Austin Patrick (39-61-8)

  • Luke Todd (41-58-9)

But spoiler season is real. These teams aren’t winning the league but they can decide who does. Deadline targets for top teams and interesting real-life outcomes shape their futures

. Some real trap stuff.

Final Take

This league is no longer wide open, but the top is far from decided.

  • Fishpool still controls his destiny grinding out wins week to week

  • Goodings and McLeod are closing fast with balanced rosters

  • McClymont is lurking as the most dangerous contender and former 1st place team.

  • Hurtubise looks to rebound and again assert his dominance.

With matchups tightening and margins shrinking, every category, every stolen base, every strikeout is starting to matter.

Because from here on out a bad week can easily sewer your shot at the prize.
