Big plays, touchdowns and packed sidelines highlight opening night of SportsKlub and Township of Ramara youth partnership

The next generation officially took the field Tuesday evening as the Ramara Flag Football League launched its inaugural season at the Ramara Centre.
From the very first snap, it felt like something special. Families lined the sidelines, teammates celebrated every touchdown like a championship moment, and four opening-night matchups showcased exactly what the new partnership between SportsKlub and the Township of Ramara was designed to create — fun, community-driven football for young athletes.
The night opened with Cordery Electrical Contracting defeating Perfect Landing Bar & Grill 25-19 in one of the closest games of the evening.
Nash Butler led the way for Cordery, finishing opening night with two passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown, immediately establishing himself as one of the early offensive standouts of the season. Kallum Hughes also added a passing touchdown, while Winston Stong and Jamie Lindsay each hauled in touchdown receptions.
Perfect Landing answered throughout the game behind strong offensive performances from Jacob Hancock and Drew McGuinness. McGuinness finished opening night with two receiving touchdowns and one passing touchdown, while Elaina Barton added a touchdown reception to keep the game tight until the final minutes.

The second matchup of the night saw Brechin Legion make an immediate statement with a dominant 38-13 victory over Synergy Healthcare.
Nathan Flint threw two touchdown passes for Brechin, while Max Laird made an impact all over the field, contributing both a passing touchdown and a receiving touchdown. Greyson McPeake was electric offensively, finishing with two receiving touchdowns and one rushing touchdown as Brechin repeatedly found big-play opportunities throughout the game.
Synergy Healthcare showed flashes offensively despite the loss. Waylon Farrell finished with one passing touchdown and two rushing touchdowns, accounting for all three of his team’s scores and quickly becoming one of the most dynamic runners in the league after Week 1.

The third game of the night may have been the most dramatic. Peggy’s Chip Truck edged Tops in Pizza 29-27 in a back-and-forth battle that came down to the final possessions.
Matthew Barber threw a touchdown pass for Peggy’s, while Colton Clay added both a passing touchdown and rushing touchdown in a versatile performance. Treyton Fraser and Piper Mitchell each added receiving touchdowns as Peggy’s consistently answered every challenge thrown their way.
Tops in Pizza countered behind Keenan Hughes, who contributed one passing touchdown and one rushing touchdown. Rory Simons and Grayson Cooper each added rushing touchdowns, helping keep the game within reach until the final whistle.

The final matchup of opening night featured the highest-scoring performance of the evening as Brechin Lions Club defeated BMR Pro 34-20.
Leonardo Flores Malpica exploded offensively, throwing four touchdown passes to lead all quarterbacks in Week 1. Kieran Ware emerged as his favourite target, finishing with three receiving touchdowns in a breakout performance that immediately placed him among the league’s top playmakers. Benjamin Gasc and William Mayo also added touchdown receptions for Brechin Lions Club, while the defence made key stops late to secure the victory.
BMR Pro showed plenty of offensive firepower despite the loss. Max McGuinness scored twice on the ground and added a receiving touchdown, while Naya McPeake also found the end zone on the ground.
After just one week, several players have already emerged as early statistical leaders. Leonardo Flores Malpica leads the league with four passing touchdowns, while Kieran Ware sits atop the receiving leader board with three touchdown catches. Waylon Farrell and Max McGuinness lead all rushers with two rushing touchdowns each after opening night.
