Trojans, Blues punch tickets to Power Bowl 39

Wagner Lawn Care rallies past CMF Automotive, Rick Grant Landscaping rolls Mara's Nook, setting stage for Orillia flag football championship
The stage is officially set for the Orillia flag football championship, Power Bowl 39.
The Wagner Lawn Care Trojans and Rick Grant Landscaping Blues both advanced through the Sunshine Superwash Orillia Flag Football semifinals Sunday night at the West Orillia Sports Complex, setting up a championship showdown between two of the league's hottest teams.
The CMF Automotive Silver Bombers looked poised to defeat the Trojans on multiple occasions. They built two separate leads throughout the contest, fueled by another stellar performance from MVP candidate Ethan Phillips. The rookie sensation hauled in two touchdown receptions and once again proved why he has been one of the league's most dangerous offensive weapons all season.
But every time the Bombers seized momentum, the Trojans answered. Rookie Tyler Hinds delivered one of his biggest performances of the year. After bursting onto the scene during the opening weeks before dealing with a hamstring injury for much of the season, Hinds looked fully healthy Sunday night. He caught two touchdown passes and provided the spark the Trojans needed offensively.
Captain Oswell James also turned in a monster performance, recording a pair of touchdown receptions of his own as the Trojans continued finding answers against a determined Silver Bombers squad.
The game remained in doubt until the final quarter before the Trojans defence shut down the Bombers final offensive drive, preserving a one-score advantage before Matt Bolduc added an insurance touchdown in the closing moments to seal the 33-26 victory.
On Sunshine Superwash Primetime, the Huskers arrived ready for battle. Team huddles were loud. Energy was high. Playbooks were in hand. But the undefeated Blues quickly reminded everyone why they finished the regular season perfect.
Mara's Nook nearly forced an opening-drive stop when it had the Blues facing a third-and-long situation. Instead, Matt Planta produced one of the signature plays of the playoffs.
The veteran running back evaded what seemed like half the Huskers defence, weaving through five defenders before finding the end zone for a massive rushing touchdown that opened the scoring and shifted momentum firmly toward the Blues.
From there, the Blues explosive offence took over. Connor Woodbeck connected with brother Hayden Woodbeck on a deep strike before later finding Vince Pitines behind the defence for another long touchdown. The quick scoring barrage gave the Blues a three-possession lead and forced the Huskers into catch-up mode for the remainder of the game.
To their credit, the Huskers never stopped fighting. Scott Oliver, Josh Ayers and Mike Black each found the end zone as the Huskers continued searching for a way back into the contest. Every time the Huskers threatened, however, the Blues responded.
The dagger came late when Planta connected with Amber Weiss for a touchdown that effectively ended any hopes of a comeback. Moments later, the celebration was on as the Blues secured a second consecutive trip to the Power Bowl championship game with a 41-21 victory.
The Blues enter the Orillia flag football final sporting a perfect 13-0 record and will be looking to complete one of the most dominant seasons in SportsKlub Football history.
All eyes now turn to the West Orillia Sports Complex on Sunday night. The Wagner Lawn Care Trojans and Rick Grant Landscaping Blues will meet in Power Bowl 39 at 8 p.m.
Before the championship game, SportsKlub Football's All-Star Game and Battle of the KlubHouse will kick off at 6:30 p.m.
One team enters undefeated. The other is peaking at exactly the right time. Power Bowl 39 is officially set.
