Youth athletes wrapped up successful season Tuesday night as the Ramara Flag Football League celebrated its Jr. Power Bowl championships
Local flag football history was made on Tuesday evening in Ramara.
The evening featured four exciting Ramara Flag Football League contests at the Ramara Centre, highlighted by championship victories from the Brechin and District Lions Club in the 11-14 division and Cordery Electric in the 8-10 age group.
In the 11-14 third-place game, Tops in Pizza edged Brechin BMR Pro 28-22 in a back-and-forth battle.
Luke Henderson delivered a standout performance for Tops in Pizza, throwing for one touchdown and hauling in another. Ryan Salwonchuk added three total touchdowns, including two through the air and one receiving score.
Brechin BMR Pro kept pace thanks to Miah Smith, who accounted for both a passing and rushing touchdown, but Tops in Pizza held on for the six-point victory.
The 8-10 third-place contest saw Perfect Landing earn its first win of the season in impressive fashion, defeating Orillia Synergy Healthcare 54-18.
Jacob Hancock led the way for Perfect Landing with a dominant four-touchdown effort, scoring three receiving touchdowns and adding another on the ground. Declan Ware provided the offence for Orillia Synergy Healthcare, crossing the goal line three times on rushing touchdowns.
The championship games capped off the season in thrilling fashion.
In the 11-14 Jr. Power Bowl, the Brechin and District Lions Club knocked off previously undefeated Peggy's Chip Truck 38-22.
Peggy's Chip Truck entered the final without a loss and received a strong performance from Amelia Vodarek, who caught two touchdown passes. The Lions Club, however, had an answer every time. Leonardo Flores Malpica threw four touchdown passes, while Rachel Montgomery hauled in the game-winning touchdown as Brechin and District Lions Club captured the championship.
The 8-10 Jr. Power Bowl featured another showdown against an other undefeated team, as Cordery Electric handed Brechin Legion its first loss of the season with a 35-22 victory.
Nash Butler took over offensively for Cordery Electric, scoring four total touchdowns in a memorable championship performance.
Brechin Legion battled until the final whistle behind Nathan Flint, who accounted for three touchdowns with two passing majors and one rushing score.
