Water leaking from the roof at Rotary Place has forced the postponement of Game 4 of the SportsKlub Arena Series Saturday night in west Orillia.

Reports say leaks from the facility’s roof began dripping onto the ice surface on Friday, creating several holes and unsafe conditions for play. Arena staff worked to manage the situation, placing buckets on the ice in areas where water continued to fall from the ceiling.

Sources tell SportsKlub that the damage to the ice is significant, with one hole near centre ice reportedly melting all the way down to the concrete beneath the surface.

The situation made it impossible to safely continue preparing the rink for play, forcing SportsKlub officials to postpone the scheduled Arena Series matchup.

Game 4 was set to continue the playoff battle between the Studabakers Leprechauns and the Famous Archie’s Ice Llamas. The Ice Llamas currently hold a 2-1 series lead heading into the game.

Photos taken inside the facility show water pooling on the ice surface and maintenance crews attempting to manage the leaks while assessing the damage.

SportsKlub officials say they will work with the City of Orillia early next week to determine a new date for the game once repairs can be made and the ice surface is safe for play.

Players have been notified of the postponement and will be contacted once the makeup date is confirmed.
