Orillia Slo-Pitch set for Fall Classic championship
Healy powers the Muskies, James leads the Angels and 78 hits fill the scoresheet as the regular season comes to a close
There was no shortage of offence Friday night as SportsKlub Orillia slo-pitch returned to the diamond for a pair of makeup games after Sunday’s action was rained out.
A few extra days of waiting certainly didn’t cool down the bats. The NKD Deer Muskies picked up a 22-5 win over the CMF Automotive Mets, while the Wagner Lawn Care Angels earned a 16-1 victory over the Studabakers Beachside Rockies.
With 78 hits and 44 runs between the four teams, the makeup night featured some big individual performances and plenty of action at the diamond.
NKD Deer Muskies 22, CMF Automotive Mets 5
The Muskies’ bats were working from top to bottom Friday night, combining for 26 hits and 22 runs. JJ Healy put together one of the night’s standout performances with three hits, five RBIs and three runs scored. With runners on base, Healy repeatedly delivered to help power the NKD Deer offence.
Jesse Bremner also made his opportunities count, driving in three runs as the Muskies continued to build their lead.
The Mets had some hot bats of their own despite the final score. Mark Young led CMF Automotive with an impressive four-hit night, scoring twice in the process, while Connor Woodbeck added three hits and a run.
CMF Automotive finished with 16 hits as a team, but the Muskies were able to turn their opportunities into runs more consistently and pull away for the 22-5 victory.
Wagner Lawn Care Angels 16, Studabakers Beachside Rockies 1
The Angels kept the offence rolling in the second matchup, piling up 24 hits on their way to a 16-1 win.
Oswell James led the charge for Wagner Lawn Care with a huge performance at the plate, collecting three hits, driving in five runs and scoring three times. Kanner Lehtonen also had a strong showing with three hits, two RBIs and two runs, while Paige Hawker collected three hits and crossed the plate three times.
Then came the night’s trip around the bases. Griffin Knicely launched an inside-the-park-home run, finishing with two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Devin Coombs and Jessie Brown each drove in two runs as the Angels continued getting production throughout the lineup.
The Rockies finished the night with 12 hits of their own, including a two-hit performance from Jesse Eyers.
While the Angels were able to turn their offence into a sizeable lead, the Rockies continued putting the ball in play throughout the game before Wagner Lawn Care closed out the 16-1 victory.
A busy Friday at the diamond
After the weather put Sunday’s games on hold, Friday’s makeup night was well worth the wait. Between the two games, several players put together standout performances.
With the makeup games officially in the books, the SportsKlub slo-pitch regular season has come to a close, and the playoffs get underway this Sunday. After a season of big hits, close games, laughs at the diamond and plenty of memorable moments, it’s time to see who can put it all together when it matters most.
The Studabakers Beachside Rockies take on the Wagner Lawn Care Angels in a best-two-of-three for the Fall Classic championship, while the NKD Deer Muskies take battle the CMF Automtoive Metropolitans for third place. It all begins with Game 1 on Sunday morning at Tudhope Park.
