Hurtubise crowned SportsKlub Athlete of the Year

Updated: Jan 14

When a season becomes unforgettable, it is usually because one player rises above the rest. In 2025, that player was Mitchell Hurtubise

After delivering a historic MVP season for the Rockies and earning Power Bowl MVP in Season 37, Hurtubise was named the SportsKlub Athlete of the Year, the highest individual honour in the community.

It was the final award of the night, but in many ways it felt like the most fitting one. Hurtubise’s fingerprints were everywhere this year, from football to slow-pitch, from championships to clutch moments. His impact went far beyond numbers, even when the numbers were overwhelming.

Yet when he stepped up to accept the award, Hurtubise immediately shifted the spotlight away from himself. He told the room that the trophy, no matter what it said, meant nothing without the people around him. There is no Athlete of the Year, he said, without SportsKlub. And there is no SportsKlub without everyone who shows up, plays, supports, and builds this community together. That humility is part of what made his season so special.

Hurtubise did not just dominate games. He elevated the people around him. He made teams better, moments bigger, and championships possible. Whether it was leading the Rockies through an MVP-calibre year or shining on the biggest stage in Power Bowl 37, he delivered when SportsKlub needed him most.

But he never acted like it was his alone. The Athlete of the Year award recognizes excellence, consistency, and impact across an entire season. In 2025, no one embodied that more completely than Mitchell Hurtubise. Not just because of what he won, but because of how he shared it.
