Hillson, Petroff headline Orillia slo-pitch showcase

Wagner Lawn Care and CMF Automotive played to a 16-16 draw, while Studabakers Beachside outlasted NKD Deer 19-18 in thriller.

The vibes were high Sunday at Tudhope Park, with the Wagner Lawn Care Angels battling the CMF Automotive Metropolitans to a 16-16 tie, while the Studabakers Beachside Rockies held off the NKD Deer Muskies 19-18 in a one-run thriller.

With the results, the Angels remain atop the standings through 11 games with a 7-1-3 record. The Rockies sit second at 7-4-0, followed by the Metropolitans at 3-7-1 and the Muskies at 2-7-2.

Rockies survive late Muskies rally

The days closest contest saw the Rockies narrowly escape with a 19-18 victory after both offences combined for 37 runs.

Mitchell Hurtubise paced the Rockies with four RBIs, while Sebastian Oliveira and Austin Dyck each drove in three runs. Matt Roberge added three RBIs of his own, Tucker McSwain collected two, and Brayden Stillwell, Kylie Nixon and Percy Thomas each chipped in with one.

Waylon Clay, Jan Veitch, Tyler Nixon, Austin Dyck and Jessie Eyers each recorded three hits for the Rockies.

The Muskies answered with a balanced offensive attack led by Shawn McManus, who drove in four runs while collecting three hits. Paul Laforet, Ricardo Santiago and Iain Bass each had three RBIs and three hits, while Jamie Ball finished with three hits and two RBIs. Lee Cumming added an RBI, and Jarred MacDonald contributed two hits and two RBIs.

The second game of the day featured plenty of offence as the Angels and Metropolitans played to a 16-16 draw.

Dylan Petroff powered the Angels with the league's lone home run of the night, finishing with five RBIs and an inside-the-park home run. David Pearson also had a big evening, driving in four runs, while Jeff Carey and Oswell James each knocked in two. Wesley O'Leary, Devin Coombs, Paige Hawker, Kauner Lehton and Jay Fallis also recorded RBIs.

O'Leary, Pearson, Carey, Owen McCool and Coombs each finished with three hits for Wagner Lawn Care.

The Metropolitans countered with Tim Hillson's five-RBI performance. Jamie Ball added three RBIs, Gary Liton collected two, while Rob McMinn, Tamara Evans, Josh Goodings, Jessie Eyers and Steve Hamilton each drove in one run.

Steve Hamilton and Tim Hillson each recorded four-hit games, while Rob McMinn, Brittany Low, Gary Liton, Jamie Ball and Shawn McManus all finished with three hits.

Neither team could find the decisive run, settling for the third tie of the season involving the Angels.

SportsKlub Orillia slo-pitch action continues next Sunday at Tudhope Park, with the CMF Automotive Metropolitans taking on the NKD Deer Muskies at 7 p.m., followed by the Wagner Lawn Care Angels facing the Studabakers Beachside Rockies at 8 p.m.
