Hamilton goes yard as Metropolitans battle Muskies to a rain-soaked draw, while Hurtubise drives in four to power the Rockies past the Angels at Tudhope Park
A little rain was not enough to slow down another entertaining day of SportsKlub Orillia slo-pitch.
The CMF Automotive Metropolitans and NKD Deer Muskies opened the action with an 8-8 tie before the Studabakers Beachside Rockies earned a 10-7 victory over the Wagner Lawn Care Angels.
Across both games, the four teams combined for 60 hits, with big swings, timely at-bats and strong performances keeping the energy high despite the weather.
NKD Deer Muskies 8, CMF Automotive Metropolitans 8
The Metropolitans and Muskies traded offence throughout the afternoon, with neither side able to gain enough separation in a game that finished level.
Blair Mangan set the pace for CMF Automotive with three hits and two runs, consistently finding his way onto the bases and giving the Metropolitans opportunities to keep their offence moving.
Steve Hamilton delivered one of the biggest moments of the matchup, launching a home run and driving in two runs. His swing gave the Mets plenty to celebrate and provided a memorable highlight on a wet afternoon.
Tamara Evans and Brittany Low also put together strong showings, each finishing with two hits, an RBI and a run.
On the other side, Jason Coldwell helped lead the Muskies with three hits, two runs and an RBI. Jesse Bremner also collected three hits and drove in two runs, giving NKD Deer another steady source of offence.
With contributions coming from both lineups, the 8-8 finish reflected a well-matched game that gave both teams plenty of positive moments to take away.
Studabakers Beachside Rockies 10, Wagner Lawn Care Angels 7
The second matchup brought more offence as the Studabakers Beachside Rockies and Wagner Lawn Care Angels combined for 31 hits in a closely contested game.
Mitchell Hurtubise turned in one of the afternoon’s biggest performances for Studabakers Beachside, finishing with three hits, four RBIs and two runs. His ability to bring runners home played a major role in the Rockies’ 10-7 victory.
Paige Favel was another standout, adding two hits, two RBIs and two runs. Her strong performance helped Studabakers Beachside maintain momentum against an Angels team that continued to answer back.
For Wagner Lawn Care, Jeff Carey led the way with three hits, an RBI and two runs. Carey’s consistent work at the plate helped keep the Angels within reach throughout the matchup.
Despite the final score, the Angels continued to create opportunities and made the Rockies work for the win.
The rain may have stuck around for most of the day, but so did the big hits, close games and good energy that made for another memorable day at the diamond.
