Carey, Price star as Week 6 shakes up baseball standings

Jeff Carey powers Angels to tie, Braeden Price leads Metropolitans past Rockies as playoff race tightens
SportsKlub Baseball returned Sunday afternoon with two entertaining contests at Tudhope Park, as the Studabakers Beachside Rockies held onto first place despite a loss and the Wagner Lawn Care Angels battled back to earn a dramatic tie.
The Angels and NKD Deer Muskies played to an 11-11 draw in a slugfest that featured 44 combined hits, while the CMF Automotive Metropolitans knocked off the Rockies 6-4 to tighten the race atop the standings.
With six of 15 regular-season weeks complete, just two points separate first and third place.
Angels 11, Muskies 11
The Angels escaped with a point after an offensive shootout against the Muskies.
The Muskies exploded for five runs in the top of the first inning, but the Angels answered immediately with four runs of their own before eventually rallying back to tie the game in the third.
Jeff Carey put together one of the league's best individual performances of the season, finishing a perfect 4-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, five RBIs and three runs scored.
Oswell James added three hits and scored three times, while Devin Coombs, Dylan Petroff, Adam Hillyard, Paige Hawker and Kauner Lehtonen all recorded multi-hit games as the Angels piled up 23 hits.
The Muskies refused to go away. Paul Laforet and Kyler Sept each collected three hits, while Eddy Tibbo, Ricardo Santiago, Robert Vella, Justin Gary, Braelyn Neubrand and Iain Bass all added multiple-hit performances. Bass drove in three runs, while Tibbo, Sept and Neubrand each knocked in two.
Lehtonen's RBI double in the bottom of the third inning proved to be the game-tying hit, as neither team could find the go-ahead run.
Metropolitans 6, Rockies 4
The Metropolitans continued their climb back into the playoff picture with a 6-4 victory over the first-place Rockies.
Braeden Price was the difference-maker, going 3-for-3 with a home run, a triple, a double and four RBIs in one of the most complete offensive performances of the summer.
Tim Hillson also stayed hot with three hits and three runs scored, while Curtis Storer added two hits. Tyler Evans and Tamara Evans each contributed extra-base hits as the Metropolitans finished with 10 hits.
The Rockies mounted a late comeback but couldn't erase an early five-run deficit.
Matt Planta paced the offense with a 3-for-3 afternoon, while Tyler Nixon drove in two runs. Austin Dyck, Kylee Nixon, Tucker McSwain and Amber Weiss each added hits in the loss.
Standings tightening
The Rockies remain atop the standings at 4-2 with eight points, while the Angels are close behind at 3-1-2, also with eight points after Sunday's tie. The Metropolitans improved to 3-3 and sit just two points off the pace, while the Muskies earned their second tie of the season and continue searching for their first victory.
With 15 games remaining, the inaugural SportsKlub Baseball season is shaping up for an exciting summer.
Busy week ahead
The league returns to action on Canada Day with a pair of special doubleheaders at Kitchener Park as part of the Great Canadian Bun Run.
At 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. the NKD Deer Muskies face the Studabakers Beachside Rockies while the CMF Automotive Metropolitans take on the Wagner Lawn Care Angels. Complimentary hot dogs will be provided for all players.
The festivities continue on Saturday for Baseball Day in Orillia. Action begins at 6 p.m. with another set of doubleheaders, but fans are encouraged to arrive early for the SportsKlub Home Run Derby at 5 p.m. The derby, hosted by Baseball Day in Orillia organizers, carries a $10 entry fee, with all proceeds benefiting the Orillia Sport Council.
