Angels Keep Rolling With Sweep, Rockies Take Two From Muskies

Wagner Lawn Care continues its dominant season, while Studabakers Beachside keeps the pressure on with a pair of victories
Sunday’s Sportsklub Orillia co-ed slo-pitch action featured a pair of doubleheaders with plenty of offence, as the Wagner Lawn Care Angels continued their strong season with two wins over the CMF Automotive Metropolitans, while the Studabakers Beachside Rockies swept the NKD Deer Muskies.
The Angels were pushed in both games but found a way to come out on top each time, while the Rockies put together two convincing performances to keep their momentum going.
The Angels and Metropolitans opened the afternoon with an offensive battle. Wagner Lawn Care outlasted CMF Automotive 18-15 in a game where both teams consistently found ways to put runners on base and turn opportunities into runs.
Griffin Knicely provided one of the biggest highlights for the Angels with a home run, while David Pearson and Adam Hillyard each drove in four runs. Wyatt Predum, Jessie Brown and Wesley O’Leary also helped keep the Angels lineup moving throughout the game.
CMF Automotive refused to go away quietly. Tim Hillson collected five hits, while Blair Mangan had four hits and scored three times as the Metropolitans kept the pressure on.
The Angels ultimately created just enough separation to secure the three-run victory.
In the rematch, Wagner Lawn Care completed the doubleheader sweep with a 13-11 victory, once again holding off a late push from CMF Automotive.
Wesley O’Leary delivered the biggest swing of the game with a home run and three RBIs for the Angels. Jessie Brown added three hits and scored three times, while the Angels continued to get production throughout the order.
On the other side, Tamara Evans led the Metropolitans with four hits, three runs and three RBIs. Gary Liton added three hits, two runs and two RBIs as CMF Automotive stayed within striking distance.
Despite scoring 26 runs between the two games, the Metropolitans came away without a win as the Angels continued finding ways to close out tight games.
Studabakers Beachside opened its doubleheader with a strong 12-6 victory over NKD Deer. The Rockies received contributions throughout the lineup, but Waylon Clay supplied the biggest highlight with a home run and four RBIs.
Shawn Thomas was a constant presence on the bases, recording five hits and scoring three times, while Austin Dyck, Brayden Stillwell and Paige Favel also helped keep the offence moving.
The Muskies generated opportunities of their own but couldn't string together enough runs to match the Rockies' production. The Rockies kept rolling in Game 2.
Studabakers Beachside matched its first-game total with another 12 runs, defeating NKD Deer 12-5 to complete the sweep.
This time it was Tyler Nixon providing the power, launching a home run and driving in four runs. Shawn Thomas continued his strong afternoon, while the Rockies once again received contributions up and down the lineup.
Paul Laforet gave the Muskies a highlight with a home run and three RBIs, but NKD Deer couldn't slow a Rockies offence that remained productive throughout both games.
Sunday ends with two more wins apiece for the Angels and Rockies, while the Metropolitans and Muskies will look to bounce back the next time they take the field.
With the regular season moving closer to its conclusion, every result continues to carry a little more weight, and both Wagner Lawn Care and Studabakers Beachside made the most of their opportunities Sunday.
The playoff race continues under the lights on Sunday as Week 13 brings two evening matchups to Tudhope Park in Orillia. Wagner Lawn Care Angels vs. NKD Deer Muskies at 7 p.m.
The nightcap sees the CMF Automotive Metropolitans take on the Studabakers Beachside Rockies at 8 p.m.
